Our Team
Raised in Brooklyn by Costa Rican immigrants, Cindy C Blakis embraces her rich, multi-racial heritage. Summers in Costa Rica, especially the cherished “hora de café” gatherings with her aunts, instilled in her a deep love for community—one she now brings to the Lumin Ecosystem.
With a B.A. in Advertising & Public Relations from The City College of New York, Cindy honed her event-planning skills while working in NYC’s nightlife. Her passion for hospitality led her from bars to fine dining, learning from top sommeliers and managing luxury events at a four-star hotel.
With 30+ years in hospitality, Cindy remains dedicated to creating warm, welcoming spaces where creativity, connection, and culture thrive—at the heart of everything Lumin stands for.
An entrepreneur and community builder with a background in finance and over 25 years in the corporate world, primarily in the pharmaceutical industry. With degrees from Seton Hall University and Rutgers Business School, where she focused on finance, urban entrepreneurship, and small business consulting, Michelle co-founded The Lumin Ecosystem to create spaces that foster creativity, culture, and connection.
Born in New Jersey to a family from Portugal, Michelle grew up immersed in her motherland’s vibrant café culture, with multiple extended family members operating local cafés. She cherishes memories of gathering around an open fire at her grandmother’s outdoor dining area, sharing coffee and conversation with her large family into the evening. This culture of gathering has deeply influenced her work, inspiring her to bring the same sense of connection and community to the spaces she creates within the Lumin Ecosystem.
Through Community Cafe, Michelle continues to cultivate inclusive environments where people can come together to share experiences, spark innovation, and build lasting connections.
